Applications to Yale

Applications to Yale February 7 Yale broke the 30,000 barrier in applications for the first time this year. Applications to Yale this year marked an all-time high. 30,922 applications were received by the university in New Haven, Connecticut. This cycle marked the first time that Yale has ever cracked the 30,000 application barrier. Thats quite a lot of applications indeed! To put this in perspective, in 2002, approximately 15,000 students applied to the university. Last year, 29,611 students applied to the university. So its a 4.4% increase over last years applicant pool. But does more applications mean that it will be more competitive to get into Yale than, say, last year? If youre a loyal reader of our college admissions blog, you know that answer is absolutely not. It depends on the applicants. 100 applicants with C averages applying does not make the applicant pool more competitive. According to an article on applications to Yale University in The Yale Daily News, Despite receiving more applications each year, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Jeremiah Quinlan said in an email that he is confident the admissions office has the resources to thoroughly and holistically evaluate each candidate. He added that the admissions office employs more admissions officers and begins committee deliberations earlier each year in order to ensure that decisions are still handed out in the spring.  Year-to-year fluctuations in the number of total applications are less significant than long-term trends, Quinlan said in a statement. He cited increased demographic and international diversity and the rise of the use of tools such as the online Common Application as examples of some recent trends. Yale will release admissions decisions on March 27th. Did you apply to Yale via Regular Decision? If so, are you concerned by the record applications?
